Why is Q fever a
RISK FOR VET NURSES?
Those most at risk of Q fever exposure are workers in the veterinary and animal production industries. Although 79% of veterinarians are vaccinated against Q fever, less than a third of vet nurses are vaccinated. This means that the majority of nurses are at risk of Q fever exposure every single shift.

The bacterium Coxiella burnetii.
DIAGNOSIS &
CLINICAL SIGNS
Can present with an acute and/or chronic form.
TREATMENT
Hospitalisation may be required.
ROUTE OF EXPOSURE
Aerosolised bacteria from the blood, faeces, urine and/or milk of livestock and small animals.
